John Billington was born near Cowbit and Spaulding, Lincoshire, England.
He was married by the time that the Mayflower left England.. His wife was Eleanor. They had two sons, Francis and John. At one point, John (the son) wandered off and apparently was taken by native peoples of the Nauset tribe to Cape Cod. Caleb Johnson states that men were sent to retrieve John.
Francis, shot off a musket in the Powder room of the Mayflower, which if the sparks had settled in the gun powder barrels, the Mayflower could have been destroyed.
John Billington was found guilty of killing John Newcomen in 1630. He was sentenced to death and hung. It could be that he was buried in his back yard. I cannot find documentation of this, but that burial on one's property was frequently performed.
